Anoxia is a total depletion in the level of oxygen, an extreme form of Hypoxia ("low oxygen").
Role in outer space
Thankfully, only a few astronauts have died from anoxia, which usually is exposure to the vacuum of outer space. If someone is exposed to the vacuum of outer space, their lungs freeze and collapse, and their blood boils due to severe embolysms.
